What we capture, where it lives, and how you stay in control.
effective date: august 7, 2026 · contact: [email protected]
short version: your raw screen capture stays on your computer. privacy-filtered workflow summaries go to an AI provider when you run analysis. we never sell your information, and you control your local data.
while relevare is running, it records the following from your computer:
relevare does not capture:
because screen capture records what is visible, sensitive text can be captured if it appears in the focused window. use the app and website blocklists for anything you do not want recorded.
everything relevare captures is stored in a local database on your computer at ~/.relevare/db.sqlite. the raw database and screen recordings are not uploaded by the public app.
relevare does not have servers that store your screen data. there is no cloud backup of your recordings. if you uninstall the app and delete that folder, your data is gone.
cleanup runs every hour. screen images and raw accessibility trees are kept for one day by default. captured text is removed after a completed analysis, with a one-day minimum, a three-day fallback when analysis has not run, and a fourteen-day maximum if analysis stalls. frame metadata is kept for seven days.
workflow analysis results (the insights relevare generates from your data) are kept indefinitely so you can track patterns over time. these contain only summaries, not your raw screen content.
you can change the retention period, or turn it off entirely, in app settings.
relevare uses an AI model to find patterns in your workflow: where you lose time, which tasks are repetitive, and what could be automated. here is exactly what gets sent to the AI and what stays local:
the same privacy filtering applies in every setup. Relevare excludes apps and windows identified as personal or sensitive, but automated filters can make mistakes. use the app and website blocklists for anything that must not be analyzed.
localhost. browser requests from untrusted website origins are rejected before they can change state.here is the complete list of services that may process your data and the conditions under which they do:
none of these services receives screenshots, recordings, or the raw local database. public release builds do not enable the internal diagnostic sync.
all captured data lives in ~/.relevare/ on your computer. you have full access to it at any time.
you can delete data for any time period in app settings, or delete everything by removing the ~/.relevare/ folder. the app also exposes a DELETE /data/time-range API endpoint for programmatic deletion. deleting local data does not erase download, billing, or service records we hold; email [email protected] for those requests.
quit the app and it stops capturing. you can also pause recording from the menu bar icon at any time.
you can inspect and export your data through Relevare's local tools. the database uses SQLCipher, so a regular SQLite reader cannot open it without SQLCipher support and the local key at ~/.relevare/.db-key.
if you are in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR: the right to rectification, the right to restriction of processing, the right to object, and the right to data portability. to exercise any of these, email [email protected]. we will respond within 30 days. you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
if you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell personal information), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. you can exercise these by emailing [email protected]. we will verify your request and respond within 45 days.
if you are outside the United States, your data may be processed in the US (for example: OpenAI, Fireworks AI, Supabase) depending on the services involved. for transfers from the EU/EEA/UK to the US, we rely on the relevant provider's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission.
because captured data lives on your computer, a typical breach of relevare's infrastructure would not expose your raw screen capture. if we become aware of a breach affecting information we do hold, we will notify affected people as required by applicable law.
relevare filters known personal activity before analysis and lets you block apps and websites. automated filtering can make mistakes, so review your blocklists before recording sensitive work.
product analytics and third-party crash reporting are off by default in this release. the app still makes the network requests needed for downloads, updates, sign-in, AI analysis, email notifications, and support exports you start.
if your organization uses relevare's managed AI gateway, the gateway records your install id, model, token counts, estimated cost, stream flag, and request status. it does not log prompt or response bodies. the download form stores the email and basic request details you submit. Stripe and Supabase keep billing and license records only where a paid org plan applies.
if your employer has deployed relevare across your team, they may have access to an aggregated dashboard showing workflow patterns across the organization. this dashboard shows patterns only. it never shows individual attribution. your manager cannot see which specific screen recordings or insights came from you.
you can see exactly what your employer sees. this is a core product guarantee, not a setting that can be changed.
relevare is a workplace productivity tool intended for adults. we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
if we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top and notify users through the app. continuing to use relevare after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
